Fr. Silverio (Sal) Di Fazio Bio:
I was born on the Island of Ponza, Italy in 1946, (my mamma says that I was born on the feast of Sts. Peter and Paul); I know that mothers know best, especially a Greek mother.
My Father, Mario, was Italian (died in 1991). He was a mechanic. My mamma, renata, is 88 years young and still cooking and in charge.
I have a younger brother, Louis, who is a doctor. My younger sister, Rose, is a teacher, and my oldest sister, Anna, is a retired chef from the New York Public Schools.
As a young child on the island, I used to play priest and say the Mass. I was surrounded by many great examples like our parish priest, and within my family, reciting the Rosary daily and reading scripture.
I entered into the Minor Seminary of my Diocese at the age of 11, and left because my family immigrated to the United States. We arrived in New York City in 1962.
While attending school at night and working during the day, I met my wife, Michelle. We were married on September 5, 1970. We were blessed to have one daughter.
We moved to Florida in 1992, and made Santa Maria Del Mar Catholic Church in Flagler Beach our home parish.
In 2005, my wife was diagnosed with cancer. Weeks before she died, she asked what I would do with the rest of my life? My answer to her was, "I will try to become a priest."
With the help of the Divine Mercy, I restarted the seminary journey I had begun decades before to become a priest. I was ordained on May 8, 2010, and now serve as the Parochial Vicar here at Christ the King.
