What is the Bereavement Ministry?

The Bereavement Ministry (Ministry of Hope) is a two fold ministry founded on the premise that everyone is entitled to be remembered and those left behind deserve the opportunity to grieve and receive the support from their faith community in order to get through this very difficult period.  Thus, this ministry has two separate areas in which it concentrates.

The first area is "the celebration of the deceased life" more commonly known as the funeral and reception which follows.  We assist the grieving families in a multitude of ways especially at the "mercy meal" or reception.  If desired by the family, the Ministry of Hope provides the place, usually the Shirley David Hall, the hostesses/hosts, baked goods, coffee and other side dishes that enhance the platters or meals for which the family has arranged.  We coordinate with other ministries of the deceased or family members.
 
The second focus of this ministry is on the grieving family members. The Ministry of Hope provides a weekly mutual help group which provides the safe venue where the bereaved family and or friends can come to give their grief its voice and obtain the support of other people going through a similar experience.  As we continue to grow, we will add other ways of reaching out to the individuals who need us most.
